Fourteen months between a deadly high school shooting and another at MSU. Ossege was severely wounded during the Nov. 30, 2021, attack on Oxford High School, about 40 miles (60 kilometers) north of Detroit. On the day of the Oxford shooting, a bullet traveled through Ossege’s clavicle and ribs and exited her back, causing a concussion of the spinal cord that left her briefly paralyzed. An Oakland County sheriff’s deputy who befriended Ossege during the Oxford shooting drove to MSU, picked her up and took her home. When Ossege is home from school, she makes the 30-minute drive north from Oxford to Mayfield Township, where Blaze is boarded.

They used to take advantage of a grain elevator in Mayfield, Kentucky — a massive facility that bought and stored millions of bushels of grain from farmers. “The swings in the weather events that we have ... that’s kind of scary,” he said, especially for those with smaller farms. Human-caused climate change is only anticipated to amplify the number and intensity of those extreme events, from flash droughts to increased rainfall. Although he took some losses, he says that he and other farmers are used to dealing with uncooperative weather. On smaller farms, if farmers are forced to put everything in a low-lying area that floods, an entire crop can be affected, Schmitz said.

UK's Landsec expects rents to counter lower building valuations

Nov 14 (Reuters) - British commercial property company Land Securities Group (LAND.L) expects between low and mid single-digit percentage growth in annual London rental values despite continued pressure on building valuations. Valuations have been hit by high interest rates, hurting investment business within the sector and offsetting relatively better performance on the operational front. Landsec, which in May said it would invest more in prime retail space buoyed by a positive outlook for that portfolio, expects earnings per share for the full year to be broadly stable compared with last year's 50.1 pence. Central London accounts for about two thirds of Landsec's property portfolio. Its half-year pretax loss deepened by 0.5% to 193 million pounds ($237.3 million), hurt by declining property valuations.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams are signing quarterback Carson Wentz, a person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press. The source spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Tuesday because Wentz needed to pass a physical before the deal could be announced. Wentz has been out of the NFL this season after starting seven games last season for the Washington Commanders. The Rams (3-6) are in need of another passer behind Matthew Stafford, who missed Los Angeles' dismal loss at rainy Green Bay last weekend with a thumb injury. HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — When the Las Vegas Raiders hired Josh McDaniels in January 2022, he said he had learned from his first stint as an NFL head coach. The Raiders under McDaniels went 6-11 in 2022 and are 3-5 so far this season for a .360 winning percentage. The one game Las Vegas reached that figure came because of a fourth-quarter safety in a 21-17 victory over the Patriots on Oct. 15. The Raiders lost a record-tying five games after taking double-digit leads, including blowing a 20-0 halftime lead in his home debut against Arizona for the biggest collapse in franchise history. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen threw two touchdown passes and ran for another — shrugging off aggravating an injury to his throwing shoulder — and the Buffalo Bills hung on to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-18 on Thursday night. After a week of questions about his “low-energy” approach and Buffalo's slow-starting offense, Allen came through for the Bills (5-3), throwing for 324 yards on 31-of-40 passing. Buffalo’s defense limited the Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield-led attack to less than 200 yards of offense through three quarters and 302 overall. But it took Tampa Bay 17 plays and 7:21 to march 92 yards for that score. Allen took advantage, topping 300 yards for the 23rd time in his career.

Andy Beshear played up the state's record-setting economic growth under his leadership as the rivals squared off at a forum Thursday. But the challenger spent much of his time blasting away at Biden in hopes of eroding support for Beshear. The Republican-led legislature revamped the state’s tax code last year to gradually phase out individual income taxes while extending the state sales tax to more services. CNBC Daily Open brings investors up to speed on everything they need to know, no matter where they are. What you need to know todayThe bottom lineInvestors got a brief reprieve from bad news and rising costs yesterday, which helped to ease pressure from stocks.
